9 August 2026 - Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
Dear parishioners,
The middle of the summer is a holiday time for many. For many of our young people, though, it can be a time of anxiety and worry as they await exam results. We keep all young people in our prayers at this time. To this end, I’m offering a Mass this Friday evening to pray for young people for their encouragement, discernment, and guidance. Perhaps you could join me in praying for this intention on Friday?
On Tuesday, we celebrate St Clare’s feast day and it’s wonderful we have the Baptism of Eric on that day too. Pope Leo visited Assisi last week and shared some wonderful words. Here is one of his reflections to the young people asking him questions:
“Around Jesus, men and women who otherwise would never have met or spent time together become brothers and sisters. When this miracle of the Church continues to take place, thanks be to God, it remains astonishing even today in our cities, which are filled with invisible walls separating people from one another. How many forms of discrimination and inequality can end immediately once we recognize one another as brothers and sisters!”

We welcome into the family of the Church Harris and Jasper who were Baptised last Saturday at St Augustine’s church. We pray for Eric who will be Baptised this coming Tuesday. May God bless them and their families.
This weekend we look forward to welcoming the newly ordained Fr Jonathan Henry who will join us to celebrate the 10:30am Mass on Sunday. We pray for him as he begins his ministry in the Archdiocese. He studied at the English College in Rome. Perhaps you haven’t met a recently ordained priest in a while – it’s a tradition to receive ‘first blessings’ from a newly ordained priest.
Fundraising Update for New Parish Icons. Thank you. Thanks to all who have donated so far for our newly commissioned parish icons depicting St. Francis and St. Clare, using some local material from Assisi. We are nearly there, having raised £1,951of our target of £2,000. If you would like to donate, please use the QR code on this newsletter, the contactless machine, or place an offering in an envelope and post in the presbytery.

Sometimes people feel worried about asking so I wanted to share this personal message. Please feel at ease about asking for Baptism for yourself or for your children. Baptisms usually take place Saturdays and Sundays at 12 noon. If you have any questions or would like further information please contact me through the parish office. Fr. Ryan |

Following Archbishop Bernard’s Pastoral Letter, we are invited to reflect on how we can continue to work together build a vibrant community of faith, joyful in our service of God and neighbour. All are welcome to share in this important process.
Over the past year we have met to discuss and put into place plans to bring to life the Diocesan Vision Statement and how we continue to move forward as a parish - deepening our faith (formation and spiritual growth), sharing our faith (evangelisation), celebrating our faith (worship and liturgy) and witnessing our faith (social action) - click here for a summary.
