18 January 2026
Second Sunday of Ordinary Time Year A

A message from Fr Ryan:  it’s good to reflect on Baptism as a parish community. In my few years as a priest, it’s been a privilege to baptise people who ranged from 8 days old to 81 years old. All the other sacraments build upon baptism. It’s the foundation of our faith.

I understand that sometimes people are worried about asking for baptism for all sorts of reasons, particularly the fear of rejection or having to meet some particular standard. I have known this in my own personal experience growing up as a Catholic and hearing about people being denied baptism for their children.

That is why, as a priest, I actively talk about baptism and encourage people to consider baptism so that people can feel at ease. All are truly welcome and if you have any questions about baptism or around this issue, then do contact me directly.

I wonder if you will also help me in letting family and friends know about the possibility and availability of baptism? A parish is more than a priest, and the kingdom of God is built up by all members of the body of Christ, so I ask for your help especially in this area for growth in our parish mission.

WE PRAY FOR THOSE CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS in our parish community. We pray for Heather and Peter who will marry this Saturday, for their family and friends. We pray for Elena and Aurora along with their families, who will be Baptised next weekend. May God bless them all.

A MASS is being offered for all who volunteer in our parish community this Sunday at 8.30 am. Please know that your work is appreciated and that you and your families are being prayed for.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 2026- This is the  Week of Prayer for Christian Unity– the octave of St. Peter and St. Paul.  Of course, we pray for unity all year.  This year’s theme is from Ephesians(4:4): “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling”. We are hosting the Prayer Service for Unity this Sunday 18 Jan at 4.30 pm at St Francis Church. Please come along to support this time of prayer and to welcome fellow Christians in Kenilworth. It is a liturgy of the Word with readings shared by members of the different congregations.

Sometimes people feel worried about asking so I wanted to share this personal message.

Please feel at ease about asking for Baptism for yourself or for your children.

Baptisms usually take place Saturdays and Sundays at 12 noon. If you have any questions or would like further information please contact me through the parish office.

WALKING TOGETHER - UNFOLDING GOD‘S PLAN  in our Parish
Following Archbishop Bernard’s Pastoral Letter, we are invited to reflect on how we can continue to work together build a vibrant community of faith, joyful in our service of God and neighbour.  All are welcome to share in this important process.

Over the past year we have met to discuss and put into place plans to bring to life the Diocesan Vision Statement and how we continue to move forward as a parish - deepening our faith (formation and spiritual growth), sharing our faith (evangelisation), celebrating our faith (worship and liturgy) and witnessing our faith (social action) - click here for a summary.
